THE EDDY FAMILY
Parents: Merlyn W. Eddy and Blanche (Miller) Eddy raised their family on a 120 acre farm in the
Leslie area. of Clarke County, Iowa
Two of Blanche's brothers were prominent men in Clarke County:
Ben in Soil Conservation; Norm, president of Rural Electric Association.
Children: Harold Eddy, who died of pneumonia in his pre-school years.
Roberta (Eddy) Touet deceased. Husband: Bill
Aletha (Eddy) Newman. Husband: Merlyn
Olin Eddy, deceased. Wife: Twyla
Oral Eddy married Lois (Watson)
James (J.D.) Eddy, Wife: Betty
Jo Ann (Eddy) Marvin. Husband: Vern
Military Service: Bill Touet — Air Force; Merlyn Newman — Air Force; Olin Eddy
Merchant Marines but rheumatic fever hastened his discharge, Vern Marvin — Marines.
Oral: Navy August 1943- April 1946. Pacific Theatre.
Watson Family Clyde and Margaret (Redman) Watson lived south of Van Wert, Iowa Children: Lois born 10-2-27; Lowell born 11-2-25.
Oral and Lois (Watson) Eddy were married February 18, 1948. Farmed and built house
immediately south of Osceola. In 1966, Lois was in a nearly fatal car accident.
Hospitalized three months.
Children:
Marlin born 2-14-52; Janet 10-15-55 (only girl, lived just three days); William (Bill) 12-18-57;
Brian 11-7-60; Lane 10-13-65
Next Generation:
Marlin married Sandra Shultz Eddy 6-30-74
Marlin farms. Sandy is an RN, Clarke County Public Health Nurse. Her story is
in the 3rd Osceola Veterans' Book
Children: Matthew 8-24-76; Susannah 8-17-81; Carolyn 1-12-85
Marlin's and Sandy's Grandson, Owen Eddy born 4-29-06
Bill married Shelley Patton
Bill is employed by a power company in Creston; Shelley is a bank employee.
Children: Erin 9-7-84; Erik 6-8-89; Elysha 3-4-96
Brian married Melanie Webb
Brian farms. Melanie provides a day care service. She has developed a puppet
ministry, supervises the Sunday School program, and conducts Children's Church.
Children: Jamie 2-13-88; Emily 3-15-91; Kimberly 12-22-94
Lane operates an insurance business from his home south, of Van Wert, his grandparents' home
stead. He had 2 accidents that nearly took his life.
In 2008 Oral is retired, Lois is receiving care at the Osceola Rehab Center. There are 7 Grand
daughters, 2 Grandsons, 1 Great Grandson, Owen. The family nearly fills one section of the
Osceola United Methodist Church on Sunday mornings. They are important to the congregation!
